We usually spend our evenings out in the front yard as we wait for Daddy to come home from work. Tonight was no different, and 'S' as usual was playing in the dirt. It wasn't long before she ran to me with the tiny critter in her hand. 'S' loved watching him crawl on her little hands and laughed as he tickled her skin with his tiny legs. She was absolutely fascinated with the roly poly and so gentle with him. (Unlike 'K' who kept trying to stab the poor guy in 'S' hand....we are still working on understanding the word gentle which is ALWAYS followed by "why?") I asked 'S' what she was going to name him, at first she replied "I think it's just Roly Poly" followed by her cute little chuckle. Then she decided 'Careden' would be a more suitable name. She couldn't wait to show her Daddy her new friend! When she decided to go hit some golf balls with her golf club and hold 'Careden' at the same time I offered to babysit him. She quickly decided that would be okay so we put him in a little toy boat and gave him some grass to crawl on in the boat. Both 'S' and 'K' wanted to watch Careden "playing" in the boat. The boat was moved several times by 'S' always making sure he was near by. She even delightfully showed the neighbor when he came home! However, Careden was soon placed on the electrical box very near the edge....'S' ran off to play somewhere only to come back and find the boat had blow off and Careden was missing. She was so sad and we tried very hard to find him with no luck. She told her Daddy all about him when he arrived home a few minutes after the tragic loss. He was a good pet....I am sure she will find him (or one just like him!) tomorrow.
